Essential Oils on Your Skin | Aloe Curves

Oil is a secret weapon for your skin.

Returning oil back into the skin is one way to use oils, the other reasons revolve around the benefits surrounding what carrier oils and essential oils can do for your skin.  Whether you have dry skin, oily skin or combination skin, oils can be useful to you by helping you lock in moisture. Unlike water that rolls off your skin, essential oils are made up of fats that are attracted to your skin and help things stay put. This is why we believe that Essential Oils and Your Melanated Skin are The perfect marriage.

Your sebaceous glands already produce oil naturally for beneficial reasons. The oil that our skin naturally produces serves to moisturize skin, lubricate the skin and keeps us from aging too fast. But sometimes we need more — more acne fighting, more healing, more pore reduction and more anti-aging. Facial and skin oils can do that. Using plant-based feminine care and skincare oils is a gentle way to give your skin more of what it needs, especially if you have dry skin. Honestly, the power in plants and in green beauty is MAGIC.

In this blog we are going to share:

  • WHAT ARE SKIN OILS USED FOR?

  • WHAT OILS CAN DO.

  • WHAT HAPPENS WHEN AN ESSENTIAL OIL TOUCHES YOUR SKIN?

  • WHEN TO AVOID SKIN OILS.

WHAT ARE SKIN OILS USED FOR?

USING OIL FOR NOURISHMENT — Did you know that high quality oils like essential oils are full of fatty acids and nutrients that can protect, repair and nourish the skin.

USING OIL FOR REMOVING MAKE-UP — Oil is good for removing make-up from the skin. It’s extremely useful for removing tough lip stains and lip sticks. Great thing is, your lips will be moisturized afterwards.

USING OILS FOR VITAMINS Whether you’re ingesting a suitable amount, cooking with or infusing oils into your self care routine, oils are packed with vitamins and antioxidants.

  • Olive Oil: Vitamins A, E, and K

  • Almond Oil: Vitamin E

  • Jojoba Oil: Vitamin E

USING OIL FOR REMOVING EXCESS OIL — As your day moves along, your skin (especially your face) can collect dirt or excess oil. You can use a moisturizing oil to remove things you don’t need. Not everyone's skin can handle an oil cleanse, so be mindful of how your skin reacts.

USING OIL TO IMPROVE SKIN — Oils can help your skin hold moisture and even draw moisture to the face. Hydrated skin is healthy skin. Oils can serve as a great conditioner for feminine, body and face skin.

USING OIL FOR SKIN ISSUES + IRRITATIONS  — Sometimes skin gets inflamed, puffy or even irritated. We even struggle with acne, hyperpigmentation or eczema. Similar to spraying an infected area after a mosquito bite, oils can penetrate the skin to help with these things. Rashes or skin ailments like eczema are not fun to deal with. Fortunately there are many oils like Vitamin E that have healing properties. There’s many essential oils that are anti-inflammatory like Tea Tree Oil and Rose Hips. There’s even oils for dry and cracked skin like Castor Oil and Coconut Oil. Thinks of oils like medicine in your cabinet can help with your skin needs.

WHEN TO NOT USE OILS

  • If you have an allergic reaction

  • If the oil is too potent. Essentials oils must be paired with carrier for use on the skin

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN ESSENTIAL OILS

TOUCH THE SKIN?

  1. Hits the outer layer of your skin, (stratum corneum), a protective layer.

  2. The Carrier Oil, that’s paired with the essential oils in your formula, has big molecules, so it stays at the outer layer to heal, moisturize and protect from the outside.

  3. The Essential Oils have smaller molecules that can penetrate to more layers of the skin (they can travel to the dermis and for some oils, they can circulate within the bloodstream).

  4. Some essential oils like citrus-based ones have molecules that are way too small, so these oils sit on the outer layer, evaporate and produce aromas.

  5. The oils that make it to the bloodstream, will circulate for a certain period of time (could be hours or days that they remain in the bloodstream. These oils will evenly exit. Keeping a routine is key so that you’re getting all of the benefits of the oils.
