What does plant-derived mean?

Plant-derived products are those that do not contain animal products. In our formulas we use plant-derived ingredients even with our preservatives.

Can plant-based products go bad?

Yes, organic beauty products are made with pure ingredients from plants, flowers and foods, it also means that they'll go bad more quickly than conventional products. We use a plant-based preservative to give you a three to six month shelf life generally, but if we’ve made a mistake in our process please email us at aloecurves@gmail.com.

Is plant-based products better for my skin?

We believe skin is a living organ and can be sensitive to harsh and synthetic ingredients. We have found that plant-based gives our skin the relief, glow and the nutrients it needs naturally. With plant-based products you're putting far less toxic ingredients on your skin. Natural/organic products can be great for sensitive, acne-prone, damaged and dry skin.

How do I choose the best product for me?

It depends on your unique skin issues. We have plant-based products for feminine care, skincare and face care. We have curated a quiz to help you find the best product for you. You can always email customer service at aloecurves@gmail.com or  text us at 214.444.3563 to get more help with choosing a product.

Does plant-based mean it’s perfect for me?

No, all of our skin is different. Although our products come from the ground, your skin may not like a particular herb. Skin patch tests are perfect to get a feel for what your skin likes.

Are plant-based products more expensive?

Blame it on the cost of our raw ingredients. Some companies source out less expensive ingredients that may not be organic. Larger and more established companies can buy their ingredients in bulk to cut costs. This is why we are grateful when you choose our black-owned plant-based company.

How are your products scented?

Yes, but not synthetically. We use essential oils, carrier oils and herbs to add a plant-based fragrance to our products.

Why do you use oils in your products and sale them individually?

Oil is a secret weapon for your skin. Returning oil back into the skin is one way to use oils, the other reasons revolve around the benefits surrounding what carrier oils and essential oils can do for your skin.  Whether you have dry skin, oily skin or combination skin, oils can be useful to you by helping you lock in moisture. Unlike water that rolls off your skin, essential oils are made up of fats that are attracted to your skin and help things stay put. This is why we believe that Essential Oils and Your Melanated Skin are The perfect marriage.

We are creating an oil guide, stay tuned.

PH Balance FAQ

What does PH-Balance mean?

Your body's pH balance, also referred to as its acid-base mantle. The acid mantle is a very fine, slightly acidic film of natural oils, amino acids and sweat that covers your skin. This film acts as a barrier to bacteria, viruses and other potential contaminants that might penetrate the skin. Sebum is secreted by the sebaceous gland and when mixed with sweat becomes the acid mantle.  The human body is built to naturally maintain a healthy balance of acidity and alkalinity.

When your PH is off you may be more prone to bacteria, inflammation, allergies and breakouts. When it comes to your vajay --  yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis and possibly sexually transmitted infections if the mucosal layer of the vagina is weakened.

Why Do I Need PH-Balanced products?

Products with a low pH are at a level closer to skin's natural pH, they will more effectively work with your skin and help cells turnover gently. They're more likely to keep skin bright and smooth, instead of flaky and angry.

Our feminine wash has a PH between 3.5 and 4.5.

Our face care line has a PH between 4.5 and 5.5. Oils, because they do not contain water do not have to be PH balanced.

Vajay FAQ:

If the vajay is self cleaning, why do I need products for her?

Your vagina IS a self-cleaning organ. She uses discharge to clean herself and carries dead cells and bacteria out of the body to prevent infections. But we suggest washing those things away so you feel fresh and clean. Self-cleaning means she’s cleaning her vajay canal, dead cells and bacteria away, not that she washes herself :)

To keep her clean we recommend a Ph balanced wash to maintain a healthy balance of acidity and alkalinity. Soap is normally harsh and strips away natural oils and moisture you may need. Avoid perfumed soaps and gels -- these can affect the healthy balance of bacteria and pH levels in the vajay and cause irritation. Use a simple wash that’s PH Balanced and formulated to gently cleanse without stripping. Wash the area around the vajay (the vulva) gently daily.

What if I have a reaction to a product and my PH is off?

We’ve formulated a PH Balancing kit that includes suppositories, relief oil and a feminine wash to assist when your PH is thrown off from semen, soap, perfume, towels or even a new product. We also sell all items in our kit separately.

Can feminine oils be used on the outside and inside of the vajay?

Many oils can be used for relief, to lock in moisture and as lubricants. If there are no known allergies, give her what she needs :)

I just got a wax, what products do I need?

You can try our Sweet Coco Vajay Exfoliating Kit and SASS In-grown Hair Serum! This kit is perfect for after a wax. It includes a soft sugar scrub for exfoliating, a feminine and skin oil and Ph-Balancing wash. You can get all products separately. Please note one scrub has coconut and one doesn’t. We know some of our customers are coconut sensitive.

To expand on your options, theres two choices one with brown sugar (sweet coco parfait) and one coco palm sugar (sweet coco vajay). The brown sugar is softer and the oil for that one sweet almond oil The coco palm sugar crystals are a little bigger making it a soft but courser scrub, the oil in that one is Coconut Oil .

Skincare FAQ

How do I know which daily face wash is best for me?

We have our Neem Face Wash and Aloe Face Wash. Although both are gentle, Neem may be an allergen to some. We use a neem hydrosol that comes from soaking neem herbs in distilled water.  If it’s something you want to try, Neem contains fatty acids, antioxidants, and antimicrobial compounds.

Neem is our active ingredient to address: Skin irritations, wound aide, aids with dry skin and wrinkles, stimulates collagen production, can reduce scars and help with acne.

We recommended doing a patch test on the back of your neck or in the bend of your arm before completely covering your face with the washes.

The Aloe Wash has two active ingredients (water + aloe). We recommend this wash for extra sensitive skin or a gentle wash for make-up removal. Sometimes if you’re testing alot of products with active ingredients, your skin may need a break. This wash is close to water :)

Skin Purging vs Skin Irritation?

Purging is an indication that the product is speeding up that process of skin cell turnover. Purging takes form in blackheads and flesh-colored bumps on the skin.

Skin Irritation can cause red irritated pimples. Irritation will show in the form of inflamed, itchy, burning, or just pain. If products you’ve used are contributing to any of these symptoms, it's probably not the product for you.

Allergies can occur if you’re actually allergic to an ingredient. If an allergic-reaction occurs discontinue use of the product completely.

Here’s an article and diagram of what happens when purging or you’re having an irritation: https://labmuffin.com/purging-vs-breakouts-ditch-skincare/

If I have a reaction what should I do?

This doesn’t mean that the product is bad, you skin just may not like an ingredient. Stop using the product and move to a gentle rinse with water and light moisturizer that is FRAGRANCE FREE. Ingest as much water as you until the symptoms subside. Aloe Vera Gel and an organic Oatmeal mask can possibly provide some relief. If a severe allergy occurs, call 911 or visit the emergency room immediately.
